Innovation was back in the spotlight yesterday evening
at KEY - The Energy Transition Expo, for the second edition of the “Lorenzo
Cagnoni” Award, which was presented to seven exhibitors for the most innovative
projects presented at the show, one for each of the event’s product sectors,
and to the three Innovation District start-ups with the highest innovation
potential. Presenting the awards to the exhibitors were Maurizio Ermeti,
President of Italian Exhibition Group, Corrado Peraboni, CEO of Italian Exhibition
Group, Alessandra Astolfi, Global Exhibition Director of IEG's Green &
Technology division, Christian Previati, KEY Exhibition Manager, Francesco
Naso, Motus-E General Secretary, and Alessandro Marangoni, CEO of Althesys. The
award-winning companies were Horay Solar Co., Ltd, Italian Wind Technologies,
Energy Dome, Rina, Renovis, Camel Energy GmbH and Alperia. Instead, the three
Start-ups that received the award were Trailslight, Reefilla and Sizable
Energy. With the “Lorenzo Cagnoni” Award and the new Innovation District, KEY
confirms its support for innovation, fostering dialogue between the sector’s
companies, new enterprises and stakeholders: a unique chance to discover the
technologies, services and integrated solutions that are shaping the energy
landscape in Italy and the Mediterranean, responding to the challenges of
energy transition and new climate policies.
QUALENERGIA SCIENCE: THE NEW SCIENTIFIC
JOURNAL PROMOTED BY LA NUOVA ECOLOGIA AND IEG
To
provide a space for discussion able to unite research, industries and
institutions. This is the original mission of QualEnergia Science,
the new scientific journal, a spin-off of QualEnergia, created from
collaboration between La Nuova Ecologia and Italian Exhibition Group. The
publication was presented this morning at KEY - The Energy Transition Expo, by
Sergio Ferraris, science journalist and Director of QualEnergia,
and Luca Biamonte, External Relations and Editorial Communication Director
for La Nuova Ecologia. Participating in the meeting, which was
opened by a video message from Teresa Ribera Rodríguez, Executive Vice
President of the European Commission and European Commissioner for Competition,
were Christian Previati, KEY Exhibition Manager, Giorgio Graditi, Director
General ENEA - National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable
Economic Development, G.B. Zorzoli, Past President of Coordinamento Free,
Alberto Sogni, EU & Industrial Proposal Manager at RSE SpA and Attilio
Piattelli, President of Coordinamento Free. The journal, which will be
published annually but can also be browsed online, will feature 28
contributions from the more than 80 received through a Call for Papers, the
first launched by KEY. The studies will cover every aspect of the event.
IS THE ENERGY TRANSITION SUSTAINABLE? THE
CHALLENGE IS GLOBAL
Economic
uncertainties and the industrial crisis are putting the achievement of the
European Union's 2030 decarbonisation goals to the test. While renewables are
becoming increasingly competitive, the cost of electricity remains high and
linked to the cost of gas, especially in Italy, which is one of the European
countries that import the most. Is the energy transition sustainable then? This
was discussed at KEY25 in a meeting organised by Althesys entitled “Is the
energy transition sustainable? The cost-benefits of decarbonisation and
consumer bills.” The conference revealed how the growth of electrification
is still proceeding too slowly, while infrastructure adaptation continues to
require significant investment, particularly in terms of grids and storage
systems. In this context, it becomes essential to redefine European and
national energy policies to meet the climate goals without compromising
industrial competitiveness and consumer affordability.
INNOVATIVE FINANCIAL INSTRUMENTS AND NEW
SKILLS TO WRITE THE GREEN FUTURE
The energy transition is an opportunity not only to
combat climate change, but also to stimulate industrial and employment
development, as shown by Coordinamento FREE’s latest report, presented
yesterday afternoon at KEY. The report analysed the benefits of the transition
with a look ahead to 2030. In recent years, investment in renewables has grown
rapidly, reaching three times the amount allocated to fossil fuels. However, in
order to achieve the NPIEC goals, further investment and more guarantees are
needed, for example, in PPAs (Power Purchase Agreements) for SMEs, which are
crucial for stimulating clean energy production and consumption. One example
comes from Spain: thanks to an increased share of renewables in the energy mix,
which has reached 60%, the price of energy has decreased. Also presented during
the event was the European-funded SKILLBILL project, which foresees an online
platform, interdisciplinary work groups and training courses. The goal is to
close the skills gap: according to forecasts, by 2030, for every new worker in
the fossil sector there will be three in renewables with a further 40% growth
in green jobs by 2050.
