African countries have  the fastest growing and youngest  populations in the world, many of whom are moving to urban centers in search of work. By 2050, Africa's population is expected to reach 2.5 billion, of which 1.5 billion live in cities and 1 billion in rural areas. This will lead to a significant increase in demand for mobility. In Kenya, electric mobility has the potential to create jobs for 500,000 young people joining the workforce, with the country aiming to make electric vehicles account for 5% of all registered vehicles by 2025... RES4Africa and IFC Host Third Development Partners Forum in Barcelona

On June 24, RES4Africa and  the International Finance Corporation (IFC)  hosted the Third Development Partners Forum (DPF) in  Barcelona, ahead of the 2024 Africa Energy Forum. The event brought together key players from the African energy sector to discuss promoting private investment in grid infrastructure. The latter forum included case studies on ongoing transport projects and updates on the Regional Transport Infrastructure Financing Facility. A panel discussion included experts from the United States. International development finance

 Africa's infrastructure investment managers,  Green Africa,  Zambia's Enterprise Power, Ketraco and ERA discussed progress, challenges and strategies to attract private investment in transport infrastructure. More information

MASEM students at Bocconi University presented the results of the Africa Field Project and Youth Innovation with RES4Africa

On June 26 , seven students from  Bocconi University Master in Sustainability and Energy

The Department (MASEM) presented  its final project in collaboration with RES4Africa. The project focused on "Africa and Youth Innovation", highlighting young African entrepreneurs Diana Mbogo  and Leander Birwa, winners  of the 2023 Young Talent Award. Students conducted an in-depth market intelligence analysis on their startups  , and interacted virtually with entrepreneurs to assess the landscape in the market and explore development opportunities. This initiative underscores RES4Africa's commitment to promoting  youth entrepreneurship in Africa's renewable energy sector through programs such as RAISEAfrica. More information

 

R4A Secretary-General Roberto Vegetti urges Africa-Europe cooperation on critical raw materials at European Summit for Sustainable Industry 2024

On June 25, RES4Africa  participated in the European Summit for Sustainable Industry 2024, hosted by CSR Europe in Brussels. RES4Africa Secretary General Roberto Vegetti presented key insights during the executive session  Investment strategies in supply countries for a competitive European industry, emphasizing the importance of partnerships between Africa and Europe to secure vital raw materials (CRMs) necessary for the energy transition. He highlighted the need to add ICV in Africa and urged the EU to define its role in the CRM value chain while providing Financial support to mitigate investment risks. Calling for regional approaches such as the Lobito corridor project, Mr. Vegetti emphasized the EU's leadership capacity by imposing strict environmental and social standards, and promoting sustainable and inclusive development in Africa's green industry.  Learn more about the event. 

Students of Nkangala College of Technical and Vocational Education and Training complete the training program in Enel Green Solar Power Plants

A group of ten young women from Nkangala TVET College in Mpumalanga have successfully completed a six-month internship program at several Enel Green Power solar power  plants across South Africa.   Organized by RES4Africa and supported by Enel Green Power and EWSETA, the program ran from January 15 to June 15, 2024. On June 5, a delegation from Nkangala TVET College visited the Paleisheuwel solar power  plant to discuss the program's successes and challenges. This initiative has attracted the attention of the Ministry of Higher Education and Training (DHET) as a potential model.To develop renewable energy skills in South Africa. Read the press release

 

RES4Africa, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa and GSE hosted a high-level training on electricity market design in Nairobi

RES4Africa, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA)  and GSE concluded a high-level policy and regulatory training on electricity market design from 5 to 7 June 2024 in Nairobi. This training, part of  the "Advancing Africa's Electricity Reform Agenda" initiative,  focuses on enhancing private sector participation in clean energy. Since 2019, the project has reviewed regulatory frameworks

in 16 African countries. Kenya, a key focus due to its advanced regulatory framework, hosted the event. Supported by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Anil Foundation , the training aims to improve policies to attract global energy investments and ensure sustainable access to electricity. Call for Applications: RES4Africa Executive School 11th Edition

The RES4Africa Foundation, in partnership with the Enel Foundation, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the European Investment Bank (EIB), and in collaboration with  the Bolemi Graduate School of Management and SDA Bocconi, is launching the  11th edition of  the Executive School, which takes place from November 25 to December 6, 2024, in Milan, Italy. This targets The program is in EnglishAfrican energy professionals, managers and students, offering 80 hours of lectures and hands-on activities focused on renewable energy. Applications are open to African professionals with 5+ years of experience, English language proficiency, and the ability to travel to Italy. Required documents include a CV, motivation letter, reference letter, passport copy and possibly a valid EU visa. The deadline is August 31, 2024, with acceptance notices by September 12, 2024. Small Network Academy - Unit 3- DRE, System Design, Operation, Maintenance and Safety

Join  Module 3  of  the Micro-grid Academy, which focuses on distributed renewable energy (DRE), system

Design, operation and maintenance (O&M) and safety. This intensive course is designed to provide participants with basic knowledge of solar applications in microgrids. Gain experience in designing efficient and reliable small grid systems, and develop practical skills in installation, maintenance and troubleshooting.  The certificate will be provided by CREEC  and the Micro-grid Academy (MGA), with the expected DIT certification. EU Skyline Projects

The EU project OpenMod4Africa holds the first in-person consortium meeting and workshop in Spain

The OpenMod4Africa project held  the first in-person meeting and workshop  of the consortium in Madrid, coordinated by SINTEF Energy Research. From June 24 to 25, representatives of partner institutions met, including Addis Ababa University, Berlin Technical University, and EDF , to review progress and plan for future phases. Key discussions included project updates and strategies for disseminating results. Prior to the meeting, a week-long workshop (June 17-22) equipped African modeling teams with essential skills and tools to use the OpenMod4Africa kit effectively. BIG LEAP project at the 3rd scientific meeting of the University of Mondragon on battery-based energy storage systems

The Mondragon Unibertsitatea Storage Systems research group hosted its third scientific meeting  , bringing together experts in energy storage both in Gipuzkoa, Spain, and online. الأمين العام R4A روبرتو فيغوتي يحث على التعاون بين أفريقيا وأوروبا بشأن المواد الخام الهامة في القمة الأوروبية للصناعة المستدامة 2024

طلاب كلية نكانغالا للتعليم والتدريب التقني والمهني يكملون برنامج التدريب في محطات الطاقة الشمسية الخضراء Enel
