VDBUM – a new partner of IFAT

Live demonstrations of recycling building materials
  • Protecting resources by recycling building materials
  • Live demonstrations on approx. 8,000 m2 of space
  • Focus on processing building waste

Raw materials are a limited resource. And for years a range of different techniques has been developed for recovering raw materials. One example of the careful management of resources is in the recycling of building materials. Here, the job involves not only recovering valuable materials, but also removing extraneous matter and any harmful substances that may be present. Once this is completed, the recycled building materials can then be made available once more to the building sector.
Recovery and recycling of raw materials is one of the themes focused on at the world’s largest environmental technology trade show, IFAT. At the next edition of this, the World’s Leading Trade Fair for Water, Sewage, Waste and Raw Materials Management (taking place in Munich, from May 5 to 9), there will for the first time be a live demonstration of recovery of raw materials from building waste. The type of demolition waste being processed includes concrete, brick and masonry, asphalt and road-surfacing materials as well as steel girders and profiles. For each of these materials, the stages in the recovery process will be demonstrated using a range of machine types and techniques. All of this takes place on a roughly 8,000 square-meter action and demonstration space located on the open-air site. This initiative is being organized by a new partner of IFAT, the industry organization VDBUM (Verband der Baubranche, Umwelt- und Maschinentechnik).
The live demonstrations will be presented by an expert from the field – two such demonstrations are planned for each day, when visitors will be able to experience first hand just what is involved in the job of crushing, sieving and sorting building materials. Via headsets the visitors will be given a detailed explanation of what is happening at each stage. But throughout each day of the trade fair, visitors will be able to inspect the individual machines and processing stations, and to have a demonstration of them.
