Rimini brings together global expertise to shape the future of the circular economy
From 3 to 6 November 2026, the Italian city of Rimini will host the 29th edition of Ecomondo, one of Europe's leading international platforms for green technologies, environmental innovation and the circular economy. Organised by Italian Exhibition Group (IEG) at the Rimini Expo Centre, the event brings together businesses, institutions, researchers, policymakers and international stakeholders to explore practical solutions to some of the world's most pressing environmental challenges.
Under the overarching vision that the green transition knows no borders, Ecomondo 2026 places international cooperation at the heart of the sustainability agenda. Its programme addresses issues extending far beyond national boundaries, connecting the Mediterranean region, Africa and Europe through shared priorities in resource efficiency, environmental protection and sustainable industrial development.
Water security, critical raw materials and circularity are among the central themes of this year's discussions. As demand for strategic minerals increases, the question of securing reliable supplies while ensuring fair distribution of economic and environmental benefits between countries and resource-hosting communities is becoming increasingly important. A dedicated session on EU-Africa strategic corridors will explore opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation in critical raw materials.
Water management is another major priority, with discussions covering the entire integrated water cycle, wastewater treatment, infrastructure resilience, monitoring technologies and the development of the blue economy. The broader challenge of guaranteeing sustainable access to water for one billion people by 2030 highlights the urgency of international cooperation and technological innovation.
The textile and fashion industries will also feature prominently in the programme. The introduction of the Digital Product Passport represents an important regulatory and industrial development, potentially transforming how garments are traced, monitored and assessed throughout their life cycles. Transparency, traceability and resource efficiency are becoming essential elements of the industry's transition towards more sustainable production and consumption models.
Beyond its conference programme, Ecomondo offers a substantial international business and innovation platform. The 2026 edition is expected to cover more than 167,000 square metres, bringing together over 1,800 exhibitors, approximately 350 leading buyers and more than 1,000 experts across over 200 events. Its specialised exhibition areas include textiles, sustainable cities, paper and other strategic sectors of the circular economy.
More than an exhibition, Ecomondo provides a meeting point where environmental policy meets industrial implementation, scientific research meets commercial opportunity, and international dialogue can develop into practical partnerships.
For Europe, the Mediterranean and Africa, the message is clear: the transition towards a sustainable economy requires shared responsibility, investment, technology transfer and cooperation across borders.
