        كشف المركز الإحصائي الاتحادي في فيزبادن عن تحقيق الاقتصاد الألماني معدل نمو بلغ 1,9% خلال 2016 مقارنة بـ 1,7% خلال 2015 و1,6% خلال 2014، كما شاهد معدل البطالة انخفاضاً تاريخياً تحت مستوى 2,7 مليون عاطل، وبمعدل بطالة بلغ 5,8% الأقل منذ ربع قرن. في حين بلغ معدل البطالة في دول الاتحاد الأوروبي 8,3%، وفي منطقة اليورو 9,8% بإجمالي عدد عاطلين 20,5 مليون عاطل أوروبي. وأغلق صندوق دعم العاطلين على فائض بلغ 5,4 مليار يورو.

        كشف أحدث تقارير غرفة التجارة والصناعة العربية الألمانية Ghorfa أن المائة شركة ألمانية الأكبر حققت خلال التسعة أشهر الأولى من العام الماضي معدل نمو في الربحية بلغ 24% ما يعادل 90 مليار يورو تقريباً نقلاً عن مؤسسة التصنيف والاستشارات الأمريكية Ernst & Young في مؤشر على تحقيق الصناعة الألمانية أداءً متميزاً خلال نفس العام.

        حققت موازنة الحكومة الألمانية خلال العام الماضي فائضاً بلغ 6,2 مليار يورو، بإضافة فوائض حكومات الولايات الستة عشر والبلديات ليرتفع الفائض إلى 19,2 مليار يورو. ويدور الجدل داخلياً حول الجدوى الأفضل لاستثمار هذا الفائض من توجه يتبناه الاتحاد المسيحي الديمقراطي الحاكم من ضرورة تعزيز المركز المالي للدولة واستمرار التقشف وخفض الدين العام، ورأي شريكه في الائتلاف الحزب الاشتراكي الداعي لتحسين مستوى المعيشة ورفع مستوى التعليم والاستثمار في البنية التحتية.

        من المتوقع أن يحقق الاقتصاد الألماني نمواً يبلغ 0,5% خلال الربع الأول من العام الحالي، مع تأثره بدرجة أقل من المتوقع نتيجة خروج بريطانيا من الاتحاد الأوروبي، وتخوفه من نتائج السياسات الحمائية الأمريكية المتوقعة مع الإدارة الجمهورية الجديدة في واشنطن.

        يشار إلى أن معدل النمو الاقتصادي الألماني البارز خلال العام الماضي تأثر إيجاباً بالإنفاق الحكومي على خطط دمج اللاجئين بالسوق الداخلي مما ساعد على تحقيق معدل النمو المرتفع المشار إليه، في حين تظل الشركات الألمانية باحثه عن أيدي عاملة جديدة وتبذل المزيد من الوقت لشغل الوظائف الخالية. في حين يسود تفائل ملموس بين أوساط العاملين حول أداء اقتصاد الدولة الأولى في أوروبا خلال العام الحالي في مؤشر أخر على تحسن مناخ الأعمال بالنسبة للماكينة الألمانية.

Federal Statistical Center in Wiesbaden said German economy  achieved a growth rate of 1.9% during 2016, compared with 1.7% in 2015 and 1.6% in 2014, also saw the unemployment rate below historic low level of 2.7 million unemployed, the rate of unemployment It amounted to 5.8% lowest level a quarter of a century. Unemployed fund surplus 5.4 billion euros

 

While the unemployment rate in EU countries amounted to 8.3%, 9.8% in the euro area with a total of 20.5 million unemployed in the European unemployed

        It is noteworthy that the German economic prominent growth rate over the past year positively affected by government spending on the integration of refugees internal market plans, which helped to achieve high growth indicated rate, while the remains of German companies researcher for new hands working and making more   time to fill the vacancies 

While tangible optimism among workers about the performance of the state economy in Europe prevail during the current year in another indicator of improvement in the business climate for German machine 

New exhibition layout for IFAT

• New halls, C5 and C6, come into service
• IFAT 2018 now to cover 260,000 square meters

After two years of building work, the number of exhibition halls available at Messe München will rise to eighteen, providing a total of 200,000 square meters of exhibition space. The two newly built halls—C5 and C6—will be used by exhibitors for the first time at the next IFAT, which takes place between May 14 to 18, 2018. The total area covered by IFAT 2018, including the outdoor exhibition site, will thus expand to 260,000 square meters

As part of this expansion, changes are being made to the layout of the exhibition: The section on water and sewage will occupy the halls at the western end and the open-air site to the north of the C halls; the section on recycling and municipal technologies will be located in the halls at the eastern end and on the adjacent open-air site, at F7 and F8. Stefan Rummel, Managing Director of Messe München, is confident that “with this clear arrangement according to themes, visitors will find their way around easily and more quickly. Our customers will therefore be able to reach all the key companies of interest to them more effectively. In addition we now again have the capability of expanding further and can offer more companies the opportunity of taking part in IFAT”

DVGW becomes another conceptual partner of IFAT

IFAT 2018 also welcomes an additional conceptual partner for the show, in particular for the section on water supply and drinking water: the DVGW (Deutscher Verein des Gas- und Wasserfaches e.V.), which is the German Technical and Scientific Association for Gas and Water. “I am confident,” said Rummel, “that this addition will help us develop a stronger concept for this area of the show also”

In the wake of these new developments, the breakdown of the exhibition sections at the World’s Leading Trade Fair for Water, Sewage, Waste and Raw Materials Management has also been revised and adapted. Making an impact

District of Columbia rolls out first environmental impact bond in U.S

The D.C. Water and Sewer Authority signed a deal in September to set up an environmental impact bond, the first of its kind in the United States

Goldman Sachs’ Urban Investment Group and the Calvert Foundation purchased the $25 million (U.S.) bond, which will pay for the construction and maintenance of green infrastructure intended to reduce storm water runoff during periods of heavy precipitation. At present, overflowing drainage infrastructure leads to over two billion gallons of sewage flowing into the Anacostia and Potomac rivers each year.

A twist on the pay-for-performance bonds most commonly associated with social impact bonds (seehere), the municipal government will pay for the installation of the green infrastructure. If it fails to meet performance targets, the two bondholders will pay D.C. Water a risk share payment of $3.3 million, allowing the municipality to hedge its bets. If the infrastructure hits tier-2 performance, the investors are paid their principal and 3.43 per cent interest. With tier-1 performance, which involves a reduction of stormwater runoff greater than 41.3 per cent, the investors receive an outcome payment of $3 million.

The project was also supported by a federal Social Innovation Fund Pay for Success Grant, which is looking to support pilot projects around pay-for-performance initiatives across the nation. “In launching a project that is the first of its kind in the nation, D.C. Water has opened the door for others to follow their example,” said Dave Wilkinson, director of the White House Office of Social Innovation and Civic Participation

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the 45th Cairo Climate Talks panel discussion, the very first in 2017. I wish you and our climate all the best for this year. 2017 is a special year for GER-EGY Science Cooperation, since it marks the 10^th anniversary of the GER-EGY Science Year of 2007

That year paved the way for several bilateral agreements promoting the exchange of students and researchers as well as joint research projects between both our countriesOf course, GER-EGY science cooperation dates back much longer than this and the Embassy is looking forward to another productive GER-EGY science decade!

The CairoClimateTalks as a series of monthly events are a great example of our trustful partnership. They were launched in 2011 by the German Embassy Cairo in close cooperation with the Ministry of Environment and several German organizations, among them the DAAD and the GIZ

Tonight’s CCT focuses on the outcomes of the recent 22^nd session of the Conference of the Parties in Marrakech

The COP’22 is also referred to as the “Action and Implementation” COP as it took place only a few days after the Paris Agreement had entered into force and thus was thought to explore how the agreement could be put into practice. Accordingly, questions of mitigation and adaptation, financing, transparency and capacity building were being discussed

Germany and Egypt both took on an active role at the COP’22. As first country to present a long term strategy, Germany introduced its Climate Action Plan 2050, which was taken with great interest

The Action Plan formulates mission statements for 2050 for systematically decarbonising all key areas – energy, buildings, transport, industry, commerce, trade and services, agriculture, forestry and waste management – and develops milestones and operative measures for the crucial 2030 landmark

Besides, Germany announced the launch of the global NDC Partnership, which had been put forward by our Federal Ministry for the Environment as well as our Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. The global NDC Partnership aims to support developing and industrializing countries financially and through know how with implementing their National Climate Contributions

Egypt for its part successfully launched phase II of the Africa Adaptation Initiative and made important progress in bringing the Africa Renewable Energy Initiative forward. Congratulations!

The Paris Agreement entering into force less than one year after being adopted at the COP’21 highlights the importance given to climate change adaptation and mitigation by country leaders all over the world

To this day, 125 parties of 197 parties to the convention have ratified the agreement. Together they account for more than 80% of the total global greenhouse gas emissions. We are confident that our Egyptian partners follow their ratification process with some emphasis. Like any other international agreement the convention can only be effective if it builds on strong and coherent national climate policies

However, Climate change does not stop at national borders and neither should our actions. In Paris country leaders have shown that they are willing to join forces. In Marrakech they have reaffirmed their commitment notwithstanding the recent developments in the US. Now it is a common responsibility of politics, business and civil society to make sure that the agreement does not remain a mere lip service

Climate change is one of the most severe challenges our world is facing today

The global average temperature has already increased by approximately 1 °C compared with the pre-industrial level.Egypt and the other countries in the region will be among the most affected by global warming. But climate change has entered Germany, too. The number of hot days, with peak daily temperatures of 30 °C or higher, has increased significantly since the 1970s

What might sound normal for most of you here in this room, is indeed a serious development in countries, which haven’t really become used yet to be surrounded by the desert or to sustain extreme heat waves or biblical heavy rain falls and inundations

At tonight’s CCT, political and economic decision makers, policy consultants, scientists and civil society representatives will introduce their ideas for climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies in general and explore possible scenarios for EGY in particular

I am pleased that they are with us tonight and I am looking forward to an informative evening. An evening with vivid and I hope multilayered, engaged discussions about a development which will shape – for a long time even in earth history - basic living conditions of humanity and nature as a whole

45th Cairo Climate Talks

COP 22: Fostering Climate Change Resilience in Egypt

From November 7th to 18th 2016, world leaders assembled in Marrakech for the 22nd annual climate change conference, known as COP22, to come up with an action plan for the implementation of the Paris Agreement. Despite the uncertainty caused by Donald Trump’s pledge for the US to pull out of the Paris climate agreement, many leaders chose to look ahead. This showed that the Paris Agreement and the underlying cause reach beyond any individual country.

Prior to COP22, 55 nations had already ratified the Paris Agreement, representing 55% of the total global emissions which is the minimum percentage required for the agreement to enter force and thus become international law. By the end of COP22, a total of 111 countries have ratified the agreement. Additionally, 11 countries pledged to inject an extra $50 million for the Capacity Building Initiative for Transparency Fund for developing countries not only to monitor and track, but to fulfil their existing climate pledges and build upon them. While some developing countries pushed for differentiating between the developed and developing countries in bearing the responsibility. 47 of the world’s poorest countries – allied as the Climate Vulnerable Forum - committed to generate 100% of their energy from renewable resources as soon as possible. Many African countries also played an important role at COP22 by announcing the ambitious African Renewable Energy Initiative (AREI) which sets out to generate 10GW from renewable resources by 2020 and 300GW by 2030.

The 45th Cairo Climate Talks will bring together experts on climate policy, climate change science, and renewable energy to share their knowledge and insights on the 2018 plan based on the decisions made at COP22 and the question how those decisions will affect Egypt. Which mitigation, adaptation and finance plans are being adopted by the Egyptian government? How can civil society play a role in achieving those plans? And how can those plans help Egypt’s economy grow while securing a   safe planet for all
