Awards ceremony in the category Construction & Living against historical backdrop

The winner in the category Construction & Living has received his GreenTec Award beforehand as well. The project Carbon Concrete Composite (C3) by the Institute for Solid Construction at TU Dresden has been awarded.
Carbon Concrete Composite (C3) is a new composite for carbon and high performance concrete that triggers greater innovation in the building industry. Future buildings constructed with C3 have a longer life span and a higher performance. They reduce the energy consumption, save resources, increase safety and allow for mobility.
Dipl.-Ing. Sven Krüger (initiator of the GreenTec Awards) presented the award in the presence of Dresden's mayor Dirk Hilbert against historical backdrop of the Church of Our Lady in Dresden on April 22nd 2014. The award was received by Dr.-Ing. Matthias Liebold (Consortium C³ – Carbon Concrete Composite) und Dipl.-Ing. Ulrich Assmann (Managing Director TUDAG TU Dresden Aktiengesellschaft).



intelligent urbanization special prize awarded

The winner of the intelligent urbanization special prize has been determined. The award went to the "Anshan District Heating Energy Efficient Surplus Heat Utilization Project", with which the Danish business Danfoss significantly improved the energy efficiency of the city of Anshan and by this means the quality of life of its four million citizens by implementing a district heating solution. In cooperation with the local government of Anshan and the AnGang Steel Company, Danfoss developed the concept to restructure a steel plant in order to supply the grid with energy generated from excess heat.
The award has been handed over by Eugen Egetenmeir, Managing Director of Messe München on April 14th in the City of Anshan in China. With its intelligent urbanization project Messe München adopted the sponsorship of the special award that has been initiated this year. Also present were Wu Zhongqiong (Mayoress of Anshan), Zhao Yufu (Vice Mayor of Anshan), Anton Koller (Vice President of Danfoss) and Jing Fengru (Vice President of Anshan Iron & Steel Group Corporation).



Laudatio held by David Mayer de Rothschild

April 24th, 2014

On May 4th, 2014, the well-known ecologist and environmental activist David Mayer de Rothschild will be on stage with Dr. Heike Schiffler from Tetra Pak to hold a laudatio for the category Recycling & Resources. The 35-year-old British national founded Adventure Ecology, an organization famous for its adventurous expeditions, to raise awareness for the disastrous consequences of global environmental pollution. Plastic waste in the oceans is especially close to his heart. In 2010, he set out to sail from California to Australia on a catamaran made of plastic bottles and recycling materials. Four months later, on July 27th, 2010, he arrived in Sydney on the Plastiki. 



Laureate in the category lifestyle has been chosen

The GreenTec Award in the category lifestyle was presented beforehand as well. The winner is Bio-Natur-Strohhalme, a project by Bio-Strohhalme.com. The natural product made of rye provides an alternative to straws made of plastic. The straws are a waste product in the process of harvesting rye and would otherwise be thrown away.
Instead of contributing to plastic waste, carbon dioxide emissions and crude-oil-consumption this natural material can be re-used. The environmentally friendly bio-straws are nearly free of CO2-emissions, tasteless, non-allergic, ecological and hygienic. Through the 100 percent regional and organic cultivation of the product a contribution to sustaining the regional agriculture is simultaneously made.

The award ceremony was held on April 4th, 2014, in Munich, in the presence of the laureates Dominik Wagner and Jana Gessert of Bio-Strohhalme.com, as well as Marco Voigt, the founder of the GreenTec Awards.



Special Prize Start-up awarded

This year’s winner of the special category Start-up is the akvolution GmbH with the project akvoFloatTM. The aim of akvoFloatTM is a sustainable and economical way to desalinate sea water, to combat water scarcity through the utilization of sea water as a source of drinking water. akvoFloatTM represents a highly efficient pre-treatment technology that purges sea water of contaminations before desalination and therefore ensures a reasonable method to derive freshwater from seawater.
The GreenTec Award and an innovation voucher sponsored by Climate-KIC amounting to EUR 20,000 were ceremoniously presented to the laureates on April 14th, 2014, on the premises of the Climate-KIC Green Garage in Berlin, the sole incubator for Cleantech-Start-ups in Germany. Besides Cornelia Yzer, Senator for Economics, Technology and Research, the following persons were present: Sven Krüger (Founder GreenTec Awards), Johanna Ludwig (Chief Technical Officer akvolution), Lucas Leon (Chief Business Development Officer akvolution), Dr. Malte Schneider (Director Climate-KIC Germany).



Design magazine H.O.M.E. once more as media partner

H.O.M.E., the design magazine for modern living with highlights from architecture, media, mobility and art, is a media partner for the GreenTec Awards for the third time. Being the first magazine in doing so, H.O.M.E. has been publishing a completely green edition, the "Green Issue", regularly every June for the last nine years. Also H.O.M.E. refers to current sustainable products and trends in every monthly publication on their style page "Green Living".



The NH München Dornach is the exclusive hotel partner for the GreenTec Awards 2014

For this year’s awards ceremony in Munich, the four-star Superior Hotel offers a certain contingent of exclusive rooms. From May 3rd to May 4th, 2014, guests attending the GreenTec Awards receive a special rate of EUR 139 per night for a double room including breakfast. The NH München Dornach is located only one kilometer away from the International Congress Center, but situated in peaceful surroundings. Directly in front of the hotel is a bus stop with service to the train station "Riem" and the Congress Center every 20 minutes.
It is recommended to book early naming the key word "GreenTec Awards", since many visitors to the environmental technology fair IFAT are expected during that time.



GreenTec Award in the category aviation assigned

The winner in the category aviation is the project “E-PORT ON - Electromobility at Frankfurt Airport“. E-PORT ON combines projects for e-mobility at Frankfurt Airport with the goal of reducing emissions in the business of providing ground services for aircraft and the necessary traffic, meaning less exhaust and therefore less carbon dioxide. Their partners Lufthansa Group, Fraport AG, the federal state of Hessen and the Electromobility Model Region of Rhine-Main are implementing different plans concerning this project, such as aircraft pushback and maneuvering operations conducted through electromobility and electrically powered service trucks and aircraft loading and unloading services.
The formal award ceremony took place on April 3rd, 2014 in the Airbus Showroom at Ottobrunn. The following persons attended: Marco Voigt (Initiator of the GreenTec Awards), Dr.-Ing. Detlef Müller-Wiesner (Senior Vice President Airbus Group), Dr. Peter Doepgen (Head of Mobility Department, State Chancellory Hessen), Gerhard Baumgarten (Head of Marketing, Lufthansa Leos), Alexander Laukenmann (Senior Vice President, Corporate Development, Sustainability & Environment Management, Fraport AG), Jutta Ziemen-Graves (Special Advisor, Lufthansa AG), Ulrich Erven (Special Advisor Electromobility, Hessian Ministry for Science and Arts), Anja Georgi (Head of Model Region, Stadtwerke Offenbach Holding GmbH), Janine Mielzarek (Debuty Head of Model Region, Stadtwerke Offenbach Holding GmbH).



New jury member: Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Reinhard F. Hüttl, President of acatech

April 2nd, 2014 
Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Reinhard F. Hüttl, President of the National Academy of Science and Engineering acatech and Chairman of the German Research Centre for Geosciences in Potsdam, is a new jury member for the GreenTec Awards.
Besides teaching in Germany, Austria, Sweden and the USA Prof. Hüttl was a member of the German Advisory Council on the Environment between 1996 and 2000. To this day he is also a member of the Bioeconomy Council and of the Ethical Commission for a secure energy supply. As a forestry and soil scientist Prof. Hüttl is an enhancement to the jury and will in the future offer his expertise in the evaluation of incoming competition contributions.
