in wind- and clean-technology patents, renewable energy resources, the

The state’s commitment to

50% of its electricity coming from renewable sources by 2030. To
accomplish this significant goal, the state offers support via established
university/industry collaboration and state initiatives, like the state’s Clean

New York State already a leader in cleantech and renewable energy, is uniquely positioned to expand the industry with strategic programs,
incentives and R&D support. Here’s how New York sustains growth:
- New York State is leading the way for clean energy
adoption, with a goal of 50% of the state’s electricity coming from
renewable sources by 2030.
- Since 2011, solar in the state has increased more than
1,000% and leveraged more than $2.8 billion in private investments. There
are 12,000+ people in solar jobs across New York.
- Governor Cuomo has announced an accelerated energy
efficiency target – by 2025, cutting the equivalent of energy used by 1.8
million homes– to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
- One of the largest wind farms east of the Mississippi
River, capable of producing 320 MW of clean, renewable energy, is located
in upstate New York off the eastern end of Lake Ontario.
- The nation's largest offshore wind farm – and the first
offshore wind farm in New York – will create jobs and energy to power
50,000 homes.
- New York State ranks #2 in the nation in academic
R&D expenditures, giving cleantech companies access to potential
partnerships and the latest technological developments.
- Empire State Development's Division of Science,
Technology and Innovation (NYSTAR) funds Centers for Advanced Technology
(CATs) and Centers of Excellence (COEs) that foster industry-university
collaboration, including several with a clean energy focus.
- New York is #2 in the U.S. for battery technology
patents and #3 in the nation for wind and clean technology patents.
- Investments in R&D facilities are eligible for a 9%
corporate tax credit.
