في اليوم العالمي للأرض.. مركز بحوث الصحراء يؤكد دوره الريادي في مواجهة التصحر وتغير المناخ"

رئيس مركز بحوث الصحراء: التحديات البيئية تتطلب العمل المشترك

وجه د. حسام شوقي، رئيس مركز بحوث الصحراء، كلمة بمناسبة اليوم العالمي للأرض الذي يوافق الثاني والعشرين من أبريل من كل عام، هنأ فيها العاملين بالمركز وجموع المواطنين بهذه المناسبة، مشيرًا إلى أن هذا اليوم يجسد الوعي الجماعي بأهمية كوكب الأرض، ويجدد الالتزام العالمي بحمايته من التحديات البيئية المختلفة، وعلى رأسها التصحر وتدهور الأراضي وتغير المناخ.

وأكد شوقي أن الأرض ليست مجرد مورد نعيش عليه، بل هي مصدر الحياة والتنوع البيولوجي، وأساس الأمن الغذائي والمائي لملايين البشر، مشددًا على الدور الوطني الذي يقوم به مركز بحوث الصحراء، باعتباره المؤسسة الرائدة في قضايا استدامة الموارد الطبيعية في البيئات الجافة وشبه الجافة، من خلال دعمه للجهود العلمية والتطبيقية الرامية إلى تنمية الأرض ورفع كفاءتها الإنتاجية.

وأشار إلى أن المركز ينفذ حاليًا عددًا من المشروعات القومية والتنموية بالتعاون مع شركاء محليين ودوليين، من بينها المشروع القومي لتنمية وتوطين المجتمعات البدوية في مناطق الاستصلاح الجديدة، ومشروعات استكشاف المياه الجوفية وترشيد استخدامها، إلى جانب المبادرات المرتبطة باستعادة الأراضي المتدهورة ضمن برامج اتفاقية الأمم المتحدة لمكافحة التصحر.

وأوضح رئيس المركز أن هذه الجهود تشمل أيضًا تقديم الدراسات المتكاملة، ونقل التقنيات الحديثة للمزارعين والرعاة، وبناء قدرات الشباب والمرأة في المجتمعات المحلية، بما يضمن استدامة النتائج وتحقيق تأثير إيجابي طويل الأمد.

وأضاف شوقي، بصفته المنسق الوطني لاتفاقية الأمم المتحدة لمكافحة التصحر، أن الالتزامات الوطنية والإقليمية والدولية لمصر تسير وفق رؤية واضحة ترتكز على التعاون وتبادل المعرفة وتعزيز الإدارة المستدامة للأراضي، بما يدعم تحقيق أهداف التنمية المستدامة، لا سيما الهدف الخامس عشر المعني بحماية النظم الإيكولوجية البرية.

وفي ختام كلمته، توجه د. حسام شوقي بخالص التهنئة إلى معالي وزير الزراعة واستصلاح الأراضي بمناسبة يوم الأرض، مثمنًا الجهود غير المسبوقة التي تبذلها الوزارة في هذا المجال. كما أعرب عن تقديره لجميع العاملين بالمركز على ما يبذلونه من جهود لحماية البيئة وتنمية الأراضي بجمهورية مصر العربية، مؤكدًا أن العمل الجماعي هو الطريق نحو مستقبل أكثر أمنًا واستدامةً.

On World Earth Day, the Desert Research Center affirms its pioneering role in combating desertification and climate change.

Dr. Hossam Shawky, President of the Desert Research Center, delivered a speech on the occasion of World Earth Day, which falls on April 22nd of each year. 

He congratulated the center's staff and citizens on this occasion, noting that this day embodies collective awareness of the importance of planet Earth and renews the global commitment to protecting it from various environmental challenges, most notably desertification, land degradation, and climate change.

Shawkky emphasized that land is not just a resource on which we live, but rather a source of life and biodiversity, and the basis of food and water security for millions of people.

He emphasized the national role played by the Desert Research Center, as a leading institution in issues of natural resource sustainability in arid and semi-arid environments, through its support for scientific and applied efforts aimed at developing land and increasing its productive efficiency.

He pointed out that the center is currently implementing a number of national and development projects in cooperation with local and international partners, including the National Project for the Development and Settlement of Bedouin Communities in New reclamation areas, groundwater exploration and rational use projects, and initiatives related to the restoration of degraded lands within the programs of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD).

The Center's President explained that these efforts also include providing integrated studies, transferring modern technologies to farmers and herders, and building the capacity of youth and women in local communities, ensuring the sustainability of results and achieving a long-term positive impact.

Shawky, in his capacity as the National Coordinator for the UNCCD, added that Egypt's national, regional, and international commitments are guided by a clear vision based on cooperation, knowledge exchange, and the promotion of sustainable land management, which supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 15 on protecting terrestrial ecosystems.

In concluding his speech, Dr. Hossam Shawky extended his sincere congratulations to His Excellency the Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation on the occasion of Earth Day, appreciating the Ministry's unprecedented efforts in this field. 

He also expressed his appreciation to all the Center's staff for their efforts to protect the environment and develop land in the Arab Republic of Egypt, emphasizing that collective action is the path towards a more secure and sustainable future.
